Pancetta Fried Cabbage

Description

This is a delicious way to kick up the flavor in what traditionally can be a bland dish. Pancetta adds a wonderful flavor that will win over even the pickiest eaters. This recipe is also great for those of you on low-carb diets.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices pancetta, cut into small strips
  • ½ red onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 head cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 tablespoons lite soy sauce
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook and stir pancetta in a large skillet over medium heat until slightly browned
  2. about 5 minutes. Add onion
  3. garlic
  4. salt
  5. and black pepper; cook until onions become translucent
  6. 5 to 10 minutes. Cook and stir cabbage with pancetta mixture until slightly softened
  7. 5 minutes. Add soy sauce and hot pepper sauce; cook until cabbage is tender
  8. about 10 more minutes.
