Connie’s Southern Style Chicken and Dumplings

Description

This is my mom’s recipe for classic chicken and dumplings. It is simple, hearty, and delicious! I often do the chicken in the slow cooker, and do the rest on the stove when I get home from work. I can have this on the table in 30 minutes using this method. Also, if you really love dumplings, you might want to double the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken, rinsed and giblets removed
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (Optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons butter (Optional)
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour, or as needed
  • 1 tablespoon butter (Optional)
  • ¼ cup evaporated milk

Prep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 2 hrs 45 mins

Total Time: 3 hrs

Servings: 6
