Arrabbiata Sauce

Description

Spicy and delicious. Ideal on penne pasta.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ⅜ cup red wine
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans peeled and diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until softened
  2. about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes
  4. wine
  5. tomato paste
  6. sugar
  7. basil
  8. lemon juice
  9. red pepper flakes
  10. Italian seasoning
  11. and black pepper; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer
  12. uncovered
  13. for about 15 minutes.
  14. Stir in parsley. Ladle sauce over hot cooked pasta of your choice.
